ORACLENERD
Time I've had a job (start on 04/10/2009 10:00 pm)

  Carl Backstrom
Late this afternoon I went to check my tweets and saw a lot of traffic from those I follow about @carlback. It was all about trying to figure out if Carl had been killed in a car accident early Sunday morning.

I began my search of some of the Las Vegas papers but was unable to confirm. Then Justin Kestelyn and Eddie Awad confirmed it.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Carl in person.

I met him first through the Oracle ApEx forums more than 3 years ago. At the time I was a newbie but his responses (to me and others) were always patient and well thought out. I never once saw him condescend in the forums. He was a tremendous resource to the ApEx community and he will be sorely missed.

Of late he left comments on my blog or we went back and forth on Twitter. We've even traded a few emails here and there. I only new him through the 'tubes, but this has affected me more than I thought it would.

I had/have a great amount of respect for him.

My condolences go out to his friends and family.

You've got to be kidding. I knew Carl same as you, not personally just on the APEX stuff. He was always a great cohort on making APEX as open source as possible. This sucks.

Wow. My first reaction was also - you've got to be kidding. That's not disrespect, just shock.

I met Carl briefly at Openworld 2007 and shared a bus journey with him and he seemed an even nicer guy in person than electronically.

oh no! That is a great loss.
My condolences to his relatives.
Carl will be missed!

This has us all shocked. Carl was a good dude, plain and simple. He'll be missed.

It was sad day to learn of the fate of Carl yesterday. He was a great guy and he will be missed.

I knew and worked with Carl in 2000. I would talked to him on IM here and there through the years. He is one funny guy and he loves his LA Lakers a whole bunch. (he would make money from me since I would always bet against him). He will be miss dearly. I send my thoughts and prayers to Carl and his family. God bless.
