The conclusion that I came to when we originally built Coherence is that the database is never going away, so the data grid becomes even more a necessity in enabling effective scale-out in front of that master system of record.

BTW - the "Lewis Foti" quote that you referenced is very appropriate, as RBS standardized on Oracle Coherence ;-)

Peace,

Cameron Purdy | Oracle
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/coherence/index.htmlAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8884584404576003487.post-87664475470294295592008-02-21T21:52:00.000-05:002008-02-21T21:52:00.000-05:00Mr. M and I spoke today. I started to take it personally, but our conversation cleared that up.

It was more of a game than anything, just trying to say the most ridiculous things. Fortunately for all of us, he's really not that far gone. ;)

@prodlife
Good article. I admittedly (if you couldn't tell) don't know a whole lot about the grid-computing/in memory thing. Looks interesting though. I'll have to do more research into it of course.oraclenerdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12412013306950057961noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8884584404576003487.post-35370271681891512762008-02-21T18:18:00.000-05:002008-02-21T18:18:00.000-05:00Must be your lucky day - Kevin Closson writes abou...Must be your lucky day - Kevin Closson writes about a similar topic:
http://kevinclosson.wordpress.com/2008/02/21/proof-positive-memory-is-faster-than-disk-dont-need-no-book-learnin-to-cipher-that-one/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8884584404576003487.post-19264677856908338382008-02-20T23:43:00.000-05:002008-02-20T23:43:00.000-05:00Google does use MySQL for their Adwords program. Data just keeps growing and growing and so does the need to store it. Databases themselves evolve. Look at the functionality added in Oracle 8i, 9i... Sql Server 2000 to 2005 now going on 2008. Look at the vertical / columnar databases. There is just a plethora of technology out there. I wouldn't say Oracle is debt by any means, just adapting.

Now if they can just fix their licensing and pricing model we'll be all set.Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09600876443323337792noreply@blogger.com
